‘Hurricane’ Hopewell Marches On
Worksop’s Nicola Hopewell continued her fantastic run of form with her third win in three bouts against the experienced Bulgarian Ivanka Ivanova in front of a sold-out Magna Centre on Friday night.
Her points decision after six tough rounds against a rival with 30 bouts to her name showed the progress she is making after turning pro in 2022.
The Super Flyweight was in control of the fight from first bell until last and rattled the Bulgarian on several occasions. Hopewell nearly downed her with a powerful left hook in the third, and superb balance and footwork meant she was rarely in trouble.
The referee awarded all six rounds to the ‘Hurricane’ at the end of the fight.
Nicola was delighted with the victory and told aetuk.com – ‘I feel the fight went really well. I did everything my coach asked of me for that fight. I showed my skills and what I have been working on.’
Looking ahead to a busy 2023, she commented, ‘I hope to get at least another 3 fights this year. I’m now ranked 2nd in the UK and 45th in the world so I want to keep climbing those rankings.’
